Signe magazine
Signe magazine is an annual publication that deals with current affairs in all branches of
design with a focus on graphic design. It's a curricular project carried out by the last
year students of the EASD d'Alcoi and it's done with a general theme that covers the whole
magazine. In its tenth edition the theme chosen was the search for equality and the concept
of design as a democratizing tool. Issues related to anti-racism, anti-fascism, feminism
and functional diversity within the world of design were addressed.
From the very beginning the magazine was articulated using inclusive
language and giving importance to the interviewees prefered self-perception.
Within the magazine I developed my activity in the Art Direction department as head
of layout design. Together with the team of layout designers we developed a grid based
on two page typologies, one with three columns and the other with two. Special emphasis
was placed on modernizing the Van De Graaf page canon, using it as a base.
From this point on, we decided to use the Literata typeface for the body of the text
due to its ease of reading. We combined it with Clash Grotesk to create contrast and
modernize the image of the page.
The combination of reticle, typefaces and the wonderful work of the team culminated in a modern-looking magazine that also takes into account visual accessibility thanks to its classic, readability-focused origin. The magazine is available from EASD d'Alcoi.
